Fiery Crash in East San Jose Leaves One Man Dead

San Jose, CA (3/27/2020) – A man died Friday night when his vehicle caught on fire following a single-car crash in east San Jose. The accident happened around 8:10 p.m. at the intersection of Ruby Avenue and Astrahan Lane.

According to Sgt. Enrique Garcia, the 33-year-old man was speeding north on Ruby Avenue with a 35-year-old male passenger in a white 2019 Lexus when he crashed into a tree. Following the collision, the car caught on fire and residents tried to help extricate the victim. The driver died at the scene of the crash and the passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

San Jose Police are still investigating the incident. So far, police don’t know if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
