Police Identify Pedestrian Killed While Using Crosswalk on West San Carlos Street
February 26, 2020San Jose, CA (2/26/2020) – A woman who was killed while trying to cross the street Saturday night has been identified by police. The incident happened at about 7:00 p.m. at West San Carlos Street and Brooklyn Avenue near Bascom Avenue.
San Jose Police say that the victim, 55-year-old Maria De Jesus Lopez Curiel, was crossing the street with a man when both were struck by a 2018 Ford Focus. Emergency responders took both victims to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Curiel later died from her injuries, while the male victim recovered over the weekend.
The driver of the Ford Focus stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. So far, investigators do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be factors in the crash.
