17-Year-Old Girl Hit by a Car While Participating in a Vigil

San Jose, CA (6/9/2020) – A teenage girl was injured Monday night after she was hit by a car while attending a vigil for a man killed in a shooting 16 hours before. The incident occurred at 10:17 p.m. at the intersection of Alum Rock Avenue and 33rd Street.

According to Officer Gina Tepoorten, the girl was struck by a black 2017 Honda Accord that was driving east on Alum Rock Avenue. When the driver attempted to stop, people at the vigil surrounded the vehicle and began pounding on it. The driver then pulled away to another spot and contacted the police.

Investigators state that the driver cooperated fully with the investigation. The 17-year-old girl was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
